East Rockaway, New York-based attorney Marc Rovner helps BETA Abstract LLC succeed as its director of business development and senior staff attorney. Active in his community, Marc Rovner of East Rockaway supports several organizations, including the Children’s Rights Council (CRC). Since 1985, CRC has been strengthening families and reducing suffering among children. One of the ways the organization does this is through such programs as its mediation program. Through this program, CRC acts as a mediator between two disputing parties. The mediator is responsible for resolving disputes when parties are unwilling or unable to do so in other ways. Mediators are always neutral and are not involved in any decision-making. In most cases, mediation is voluntary and can be initiated by either one party or both parties. In some situations, a court may also order disputing parties to resolve their problems with a mediator. When mediation is court-ordered, both parties are required to participate. CRC provides mediation in either case. Most of the CRC mediation work is done in family courts. Legally, agreements between both parties can be spoken or written, but CRC prefers the latter. In the event an agreement cannot be reached, parties may use other methods to resolve their issues.
