A native of East Rockaway, New York, attorney Marc Rovner works for BETA Abstract, a title insurance company with offices in New York, New Jersey, and Florida. In his position as senior staff attorney, he supervises the legal department and manages the organization’s business development activities. Marc Rovner attended Boston University where he was privileged to have Howard Zinn as a professor. Zinn is the author of A People’s History of United States: 1492-Present.
Howard Zinn, an author, professor, playwright, and activist, addressed a number of issues in his work, including race, class, war, and history. He wrote dozens of books, including A People’s History of the United States, Marx in Soho, Vietnam: The Logic of Withdrawal, and SNCC: The New Abolitionists. Zinn was born in 1922 and served in World War II as an Air Force pilot. It was during that time that he developed and solidified the antiwar views that he held throughout his life. After the war and the completion of his academic degrees, Zinn worked for a short time at Spelman College where he was actively involved in the civil rights movement. As a result of activities associated with the civil rights movement, he was asked to resign and became a professor at Boston University, where he worked until he retired in 1988. A People’s History is Howard Zinn’s most influential book, selling over 2 million copies since its first printing in 1980. The book looks at history from the bottom up, telling the nation’s story through the point of view of ordinary people experiencing significant events throughout America’s history. Though it has recently met with controversy, A People’s History remains one of the most widely read books on the history of the United States.
