In an effort to bolster their forward depth prior to the start of the 2019-20 NHL season, the Rangers signed free agent Michael Haley to a one-year, $700,000 contract. A native of Canada, Haley signed a professional tryout contract with New York prior the the start of the pre-season and appeared in five games before earning the guaranteed contract. This is his second stint with the team; he previously played nine games with New York during the 2012-13 season. The 33-year-old split last season between the San Jose Sharks and Florida Panthers, and recorded six points in 43 games. He made his NHL debut in the 2009-10 season with the New York Islanders and has since appeared in 248 regular season games, accumulating 10 goals, 21 assists, and 637 penalty minutes. He's expected to be featured on the Rangers' fourth line, while prospects Vitali Kravstsov and Filip Chytil earn top-six forward minutes in the AHL.
