A native of East Rockaway, New York, Marc Rovner is an attorney who serves as general counsel and director of business development for BETA Abstract LLC in Oceanside, New York. Marc Rovner attended Boston University, where he graduated magna cum laude and also studied under Howard Zinn, one of his favorite authors, before becoming an attorney. Up until his death in 2010, Howard Zinn was one of the country’s most influential and thought-provoking historians, best known for his surprise bestseller A People’s History of the United States. A People’s History tells the story of the United States from the point of view of minorities, including African-Americans, Native Americans, women, factory workers, those of the lower classes, and immigrant laborers. Howard Zinn grew up in a working-class, immigrant household in Brooklyn. He was a shipyard worker and saw combat with the Air Force during World War II. These experiences, along with his work as a warehouse loader while he studied history at Columbia University, shaped his views of the world, which included an opposition to war and a belief in the importance of knowing and understanding history. Zinn taught at Boston University for many years and also published dozens of books.
